Whereas my previous mix, Last Night In Temple Terrace, was inspired by my dad’s finally getting out of the hospital after a kidney removal, Last Night In Laurel Valley was made, I’m sad to report, in the wake of his passing on January 4th, 2019.
Fortunately for him and everyone who knew him, Dad outlived his 2012 cancer prognosis by several years. He and my mother enjoyed a pretty nice quality of life for about 5 1/2 years since that diagnosis, and it was only in the last couple of months that he started sliding. I’m incredibly grateful to have been there with my mother and sister for his final week, and to be at his side when he drew his final breath. It was truly a gift.
