Den Master Kid Kameleon turns in a winter-y mix for the 8th installment of our series - turning his eyes and ears towards Japan to find sounds that excite him. An Ametsub track name "Snowy Lava" is a metaphor for the mix's sound - equal parts icy, crystalline, frosty complexity and wild tectonic forces of magma, energy, and heat. It's a mix that tries to capture the moment when those two elements meet, and when potentially destructive forces combine in beautiful, delicate and complex ways. The tracks on it certainly aren't all from Japanese producers - England, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and France are all represented in here - but there's only one American (Infinitirock) among the bunch. Perhaps it's Kid Kameleon's clarion call to the world to let it know that such music has a place here in San Francisco - and to establish the Den as an outpost for international sounds and artists when their travels take them to the West Coast of the US.
