This upload was 66th in the #jazz chart.
My last set for Ness Radio's International Jazz Day marathon had no theme to begin with. Then, I realised I was selecting a lot of fantastic saxophone players from the present and the past: Dewey Redman, Joe Henderson, Ornette Coleman, Pee Wee Ellis, Matana Roberts, Joshua Redman... It was only fitting then to dedicate this set to the Belgian instrument builder Adolphe Sax (1814-1894), who decided to take the clarinet to the next level and gave us the instrument that Charlie Parker and John Coltrane used to write history, An unfortunate business man, Adolphe Sax died in total poverty in Paris, where saxophone players from around the globe still pay tribute leaving reeds at the foot of his grave at the Cimetière de Montmartre.
MERCI to Ness Radio for airing this show,
to Dubbel Dee for having me on the marathon,
to all the musicians for their art,
to Mr. Sax for the sax,
to you for tuning in.
Enjoy the summer!
