Eras #002: Drum Funk '98 mixed by Suburban Architecture

Chart positions

This show was 1st in the global bass music chart, 6th in the global dnb chart and 20th in the global drum & bass chart.

Following on from our 'Architects' mix series, 'Eras' pays tribute to era-specific movements in the evolution of Drum & Bass. Edition #002 looks back to '98 with a selection of tracks that typify the so called 'Drum Funk' sound - upright bass, tough stepping drums and horn stabs rule supreme in this memorable but somewhat short-lived late 90s trend.

Really nice selection and fairly comprehensive of this kind of sound - I always thought “Drumfunk” was actually the style of syncopated drum breaks, ie Paradox or Fanu, and this was more like “jazzstep” or “jazz n bass” 😂 but whatever it’s called, nice selection, big up!
