Fáilte Isteach is a community project in Ireland which involves older volunteers welcoming new migrants through conversational English classes. It part of the Third Age Initiative, which fosters increased inclusion of older people into Irish society. On December 10 2015, it was one of the winners of the 2015 civil society award for combatting poverty, organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
Owen Stafford went to the award ceremony at the EESC in Brussels and afterwards spoke with Áine Brady, CEO of Third Age, Ariana Ball, General Manager of Failte Isteach and Seamus Boland of Irish Rural link, which represents Irish rural communities. Mr Boland is also a member of the EESC and nominated Failte Isteach for the prize.
