It’s another ping-ponging show, but this time instead of crossing international boundaries, we bounced between musical eras. Our arbitrary dividing line is 1987 — the year some record executives got together and coined the term “world music” for the exotic non-western recordings that didn’t have another place to reside on store shelves. (Spin The Globe uses that term less and less these days as multicultural sounds find their way into more and more mainstream genres.)
The show also included a live set from Arto Järvelä and Kaivama (pictured), currently on tour (and at Traditions Cafe in Olympia May 18).
