We first heard of Kayla Painter when she was part of the Future Bubblers project – headed up by Gilles Peterson, it’s a development scheme for new artists from outside London to get training from some of the best in the music business. The producer has gone from strength to strength, releasing a string of singles and double EPs including her latest ‘Sacrifice The Other / Made Of Light’. In this mix she explores the upbeat side of moody electronica with hints of garage, with tracks from some of her favourite producers like Four Tet and Burial. She also features in the main Selector Radio show, chatting to Jamz Supernova about her contribution to Distant Dialogues – a proect with the British Council to bring UK and Chinese musicians together, so head there to listen to more of her work.
