Zu are very hard to define. They have collaborated with the likes of Steve Albini and Mike Patton, who signed them to his record label Ipecac Recordings yet the Roman music veterans don’t fall into a particular genre, each of their songs has a singular sound that resonates the most diverse influences. An insane rhythm section and a saxophone jumps between experimentation and melody. This is the basis of their peculiar style.
They are the only Rome band to have gained enthusiastic and worldwide acclaim, also thanks to their incredibly intense live shows. As original and varied as their sound, this mixtape reflects the eclectic style of the band. Combining together all genres, from African tribal music, to drone and electronic music with some instrumental scores excerpts, the playlist gives a better idea of Zu’s music than any definition could ever do.
