DJs share the music they discover in record shops on blogs, building awareness in venues and online. Meanwhile, labels curate and educate their listeners about important periods and influential artists, often resuscitating the careers of forgotten recording artists. But what role can and should these curators be playing in nurturing the next generation of African artists? Where is the colonial trip wire and how should supporters navigate it? How do we move away from the cultural appropriation and exploitation to opportunity and empowerment? Have can we use the arts as an instrument for social change?
Featuring Kwaku (British Black Music), Quinton Scott (Strut Records), poet Caleb Femi (SXWKS), artist/curator Bekke Popoola (Black British Girlhood), Melissa from We Need To Talk About: podcast and the Hunters Beat King Blackman Akeeb Kareem.
Hosted by Amar Patel (Soul Labels)
