The Yehudi Menuhin School is renowned for its world-class expertise in music tuition for gifted children. Yehudi Menuhin was innovative beyond classical music and one of his other lasting legacies is the charity Live Music Now. In 1977, he realised that residential homes needed interactive music and musicians needed work, so why not put the two together? Music as a communication tool is well known, especially people with dementia, and what cuts through compromised memory. On this AWIL, Strategic Director & oboe queen, Nina Swann, explains the work of the charity in hospitals, Special Needs schools, and care homes for the elderly, outlining the benefits for musicians who gain regular employment, interpersonal skills & experience outside of the standard live music circuit. Hear Nina’s selection of tracks of LMN artists, and remember to check out the debut chapbook, London Violins, by Alban Low, in conjunction with The Yehudi Menuhin school and A World in London!
