Roots Musings - Protest Songs

ROOTS MUSINGS - PROTEST SONGS. This show, aired the night before Trump's inauguration, celebrates the power and relevance of protest songs, whether they are used to inform, to raise spirits or to convert people to a cause. With all that's going on in the world right now, we need protest songs more than ever so I'm very happy to report that the genre is alive and well. This month's Mojo Magazine (Jan 2017) had a list of 50 protests songs from the last 10 years. Yes, Neil Young and Bob Dylan were in there but so were many more - Ezra Furman's 'Ferguson's Burning' is a modern classic, for example. In an hour, we can but scratch the surface! Expect to hear - Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson, Christy Moore, Bright Eyes, Ezra Furman, CSNY, The Specials, Barry Moore (AKA Luka Bloom), Tom Paxton, Planxty, Moving Hearts and more. (A big thank you to Ann Callaghan and Gerry Maguire)

Thank you for listening Tracy. I was concerned that I might offend some people but really, the right to protest is fundamental to a decent society. A belated happy new year to you and thank you, as always, for your interest and support.
