The Holy Grail of Music (Mostly Sad Songs from 1962-72)

The Holy Grail of Music (Mostly Sad Songs from 1962-72)

Playing tracks by

R B Greaves, The Searchers, The foundations, Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers and more.

This mix spun off of The Troggs' "Love is All Around" which I labeled as "The Holy Grail" of pop music once upon a time and just the other day, after using a $1.00 free download credit with Amazon and chose that song to download, decided to make a mix with that as a theme. Even though that song really isn't a sad song, after making a list of songs that I felt could also be classified in such lofty terms, most that made my list for the mix were. Some songs that didn't make the cut: either "Only Love Can Break A Heart" or "Town Without Pity" by Gene Pitney, "No Reply" by The Beatles, "Sunrise, Sunset" from The Fiddler On the Roof soundtrack, "These Foolish Things" by Bryan Ferry, and "Solitaire" by the Carpenters. Of the 24 songs, 2 were from 1982, 1 was from 1941, and the rest (87.5%) were from 1962-1972. The chart illustrates the song breakdown by year for the core years and interestingly shows three sets of three year groupings, and skips 1965 & 1969 (thought it was interesting)..
