On Friday the 8th of June 2018 diverse people gathered at Exeter Phoenix arts centre to conduct a symposium with a difference. Speed Reading Exeter brought together academics, artists and creatives from across the city - each presenting a single idea in a limited five minute presentation. The presentations all strove to address in some way the themes of Translation, Transmission and Transference. As the symposium unfolded, connections and themes emerged fitfully, offering – it is hoped – a snapshot of contemporary thinking with an outcome in which the whole was much greater than the parts. Conceived by Ed Baxter and produced by Michael Umney. It was commissioned by University of Exeter Arts & Culture as part of Exeter Sound Context.
