Hosts: Aaron Bornstein and Max Liboiron
Guest: Rick Chavolla, activist and educator
As we approach the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street, we talk to Rick Chavolla, a long time activist in educational, social, economic, Native, and racial justice issues around the world. We discuss what it means to be a life-long activist, including how to pace ourselves for the long haul, how we recognize and avoid burn out, and how we maintain our convictions as we continually confront issues that probably won't go away during our lifetimes. Rick emphasizes the central role of taking time to think about, articulate, and nourish the core values that make us activists to begin with. We conclude by taking about an activist lifestyle and the role institutions in "the system" have played in Rick's career as an activist.
