Never the Same - a mix tape

Never the Same - a mix tape

Playing tracks by

Del Close & John Brent, Supreme Beings of Leisure, Small World, Beastie Boys, Ken Nordine & DJ Food and more.

I used to love http://artofthemix.org, where mixers could share their mixes. Back in the day, we didn't have bandwidth to send them back and forth (and many weren't digital to start with), so we would send cds & tapes back and forth. I discovered a lot of great music that way, and I still regret that I stopped participating when I spent more time on the show.

But now with mixcloud, I feel like there's a chance to bring back some of that fun, and so I'm uploading some of my mixes -- starting with this one, the very first that I posted, from March 2001.

My notes from then: This started out as a look at the weird collection of CDs I've picked up since the start of the year, but it has turned into a study of change and constancy, symmetry and asymmetry. The tape jumps from genre to genre, but keeps it's integrity through theme and the transition between tracks. Yes, as a matter of fact, I do overthink things :)
