I was born in 1968. My musical coming of age was 1981. However, it was going to take me a few years before I came back to the outstanding music that was being released right around that era.
So here it is, in retrospect, the music I would have been listening to in 1981, if I wasn't a 13 year old living in a small town. A fair bit of punk -- especially Canadian punk, what would come to be called post-punk (though, ironically, it was happening at the same time), the first few years of New Wave. Toss in some "new romantic", some electronic instrumental, some lusher arrangements...and filter it all through the lens of my memory.
No 80s jokes tonight. Music is serious stuff. If you're old enough to remember this, enjoy the trip back. If you're not, then you missed a great time in music.
