I did a telephone interview with comdiean Ade Edmondson of Young Ones and Bottom fame. I interviewed him about his band The Bad Shepards who were to play at the newly re-opened Band On the Wall. The Bad Shepards take popular punk and new wave songs and cover them with a gorgeous folk sound using mandolin, bazuki, pipes, fiddle and double bass.
He talked about the early days of the comic strip club as an aspiring comedian and feeling like he was at the centre of the universe when he didn't know where he was going; The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band; Monsters of Rock; comedy, stupidity and recruiting musicians for The Bad Shepards.
I told him that my sense of humour, my worldly wisdom and my intellectual capacity have been molded by some of the comedy programs he's been part of. He asked 'Should I be proud or fearful?'
He said that his favourite punk song that mixes comedy and music is Jilted John - Jilted John. Good choice.
