Terry Scales, painter of the Thames and Kentish landscapes, recalls his life as the son of a docker, who left school aged 13 to go to art school at Camberwell. After college he too became a docker before returning to teach art at Camberwell for 30 years. He reflects on the changes that the redevelopment of the riverside has made in the choice of subject matter for a river artist.
