Funk, Soul & Jazz From The Capitol Vaults

Funk, Soul & Jazz From The Capitol Vaults

Chart positions

This show was 1st in the global funk chart, 2nd in the global disco chart, 4th in the global soul chart and 4th in the global jazz chart.

This cloudcast contains funk, soul and jazz from the legendary Capitol label, but is most of all a tribute to Natalie Cole, who passed away last Thursday. She made her most impressive records on Capitol in the mid-seventies. I selected three of her songs from that period. After years of failing sales and performances due to a heavy drug addiction, Cole re-emerged as a pop artist with the 1987 album ‘Everlasting’ and her cover of Bruce Springsteen's ‘Pink Cadillac’. In the nineties she became most successful with re-recordings of work by her father, Nat King Cole. She sold over 30 million records worldwide. More about the mix (tracklist) on my blog http://professoreddy.blogspot.nl/2016/01/funk-soul-jazz-from-capitol-vaults.html and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/djprofessoreddy/ Enjoy!

Mooie compilatie, prachtig eerbetoon aan Natalie Cole, als majeure L.Rawls fan heb ik erg genoten van 'You've made me so very happy' --> you did indeed :-)

Professor Eddy

Dank je wel, Janek! Geweldig hè, die Lou Rawls. Ik vind behalve zijn werk voor Capitol ook zijn Philadelphia International tijd ontzettend de moeite waard.

George Roberts

Thanks - I've not been on one of your mixes for a while, a lovely one to come back to :)
