Launch of No New Theories by Kameelah Janan Rasheed, with Jessica Lynne

Printed Matter is pleased to announce the publication of No New Theories, a new artists’ book by Kameelah Janan Rasheed. Building on Rasheed’s accretive and associative installation work, the project brings together xerox abstractions, poetic text fragments, and found as well as original photography to explore learning and unlearning as a spiritual, socio-political, ecological, and cognitive process.

To launch her new publication, Rasheed was joined in conversation with Jessica Lynne, co-founder of the art criticism journal ARTS.BLACK, on January 30, 2020, at Printed Matter. Rasheed and Lynne reference their collaboration and individual practices to consider notions of slowness and gestation periods in art making; they use the book's iterative publication process as a jumping off point to discuss creating with uncertainty and contingency in mind—both as an opportunity for expansion and reinterpretation, and as a strategy of evasion.
