If I had to name a Peg resident out of anyone that ever played, it would be Robert Gipson. He's played at every Peg In The Sun, all-dayers, all-nighters, the barn party and in Brighton... and there's a reason for that. No one else has Rob's records.
We first met at Subterrain at The End in 1999. I don't remember how, but me, Rob and his mates were all dancing to Deano in the lounge. I left whoever I'd came with and spent the rest of the night with them instead. Fast forward two years and Rob randomly turned up at a Peg NYE do. I've no idea how. I don't think he missed a Peg after that. And he's probably been the last man standing. Or dancing.
Whether its rare soul, mad jazz, spaced-out house, cranky techno or something in between, Rob probably has it on vinyl, in his record attic in Bedford. This mix of his I found on a minidisc he'd recorded at an afters. It's immense - like all of Rob's sets, regardless of style, always brimming with substance.
Rob, you're an inspiration.
