To celebrate my last days in Dubai, I chose to honour one of the most influential, multi-talented yet unsung African-American artists, the Soul and Jazz poet, musician, and author Gil Scott-Heron. Known primarily for his work as a spoken-word performer in the 70s, he is viewed by many as the godfather of rap. His decade long collaboration with musician Brian Jackson and his own personal quest gave birth to an outstanding musical fusion of jazz, blues, and soul, combined to deeply social, political and spiritual lyrics that resonate to this day...
