Playing tracks by
Creation Rebel, Prince Far I & Creation Rebel and Starship '99.
The best bass lines from the late seventies from the masters of minimal dub, CREATION REBEL. These were the first recordings by UK producer Adrian Sherwood who's On U-Sound label brought out some of the heaviest dub of the eighties and nineties.
When the band's STARSHIP AFRICA album was being mixed Adrian was urged to go mad "more reverb, more delay...". But nothing could be so mad as the idea to mix the tracks blind. That is - turn over the quarter inch tape on the deck and feed in the effects and run the mix backwards, turn it back over for the finished product and somehow it made a crazy kind of sense. So much so that the mix was finished in one day!
There is a vocal cut from Prince Far I who Creation Rebel backed on this session for the John Peel show in 1978 and a couple of recent tracks from Starship '99.
Members of Creation Rebel also contributed to other bands associated with Adrian Sherwood and On-U Sound as well as backing musicians for visiting stars from Jamaica.
