NoMen FM #88 - Cover Up!!!

NoMen FM #88 - Cover Up!!!

Playing tracks by

The Rezillos, Link Wray, Jack Nitzsche, The Sandpipers, Julie London and more.

Get Yourself Covered! This weeks show is a selection of weird and wonderful cover versions. Some are better than the originals… some remind you how good the originals are and some just take the piss out the originals!!!
Highlights are Mae West, Jack Nitzsche, Angel Corpus Christie and Julie London turning Bubblegum into schmaltzy MOR.
Stay tuned to the end for the classic Top of the Pops album cover of Public Image's "Death Disco". It took me 20 years to track this album down and I was very disappointed that the TOTP orchestra actually did a pretty good job of recreating one of my favourite songs. I was expecting worse...

I adore that Mae West track. I'd like to hear more of that album! Ike and Tina must have been listening to the Temptations "Papa was a Rolling Stone" - it's almost as great as a Norman Whitfield production! I assumed that Iggy wrote that "Wild Child" song - who did the original though? I also reckon that the Jowe Head version of Crawfish is rather fine, but maybe I am biased. Keep up the great work chaps!

I'll pop a copy of the Mae west Album in the post to you... it is sublime! Wild Child was originally by Johnny O'Keefe an Australian Rock'n'Roller but it was done by one of the Cricketts (under the name of Ivan) and also Jerry Lee Lewis and even Jet Harris from the Shadows had a bash at it... not to mention Alvin and the Chipmunks!
