Pere Ubu released their first record in 1975 and have just released a new album in 2013! This is a personal selection of what I love about Pere Ubu featuring tracks from throughout their long career.
Every lazy journalist and reviewer always trots out the cliche that their first album "Modern Dance" was a seminal album and that the follow up "Dub Housing" was classic... then when Pere Ubu bring out something new they say "It's the best thing they've done since Modern Dance" or "It's a worthy successor to Dub Housing". BOLLOCKS! Every Pere Ubu album has been a classic in its own way... "New Picnic Time" was the worthy successor to Dub Housing as it WAS the follow up album. OK, "The Art of Walking" may have been difficult to listen to and some of their nineties albums bordered on mainstream rock but Pere Ubu have been delivering top quality music since the seventies and the current line up, which has been the longest running, is on par with the classic seventies line up.
Have a listen.
