The John Peel show. I started listening to peel around 1976 just in time for the punk revolution! I'd read Nick Kent's review of the first Ramones album and couldn't wait to hear it on Peel. Unfortunately when I listened to the Peel show he had also read the review and couldn't wait to hear it himself. A few days later he played "I don't wanna walk around with you" and my life, or at least my musical taste, changed forever! I listened to Peel every single night up to about the mid eighties recording cassettes of the sessions, which were always better than the actual records, and buying hundreds of records based on what I heard on his show.
Listening to Peel was an eye opener! Although at first it was the punk records I wanted to hear it very quickly turned around to the point where the punk stuff was the least interesting and his excursions in to reggae, african, rockabilly, early blues and country, krautrock and just plain crazy stuff was the reason that his show was unmissable.
