An Anthology Of Chinese Experimental Music 1992-2008

Playing tracks by

Dead J (aka Shao Yanpeng), Loga, Shenggy, Sun Dawei, Memo and more.

"An overview of experimental and non-academic music in China". Selected artists are living mostly in People's Republic of China but also in Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.

41 of the 4CD collection's 48 tracks are featured. I enjoy this kind of thing but even my patience was getting tested with the length and unwieldiness of this thing. Making this mix was one way I managed to get through the collection.

So here you go: 5 hours of noise condensed to 50 minutes. Most of the time there are 4 tracks overlaid onto each other, some had a little extra reverb added, most were being played at the wrong speed (up to +/- 50)...

this is a great mix, very nicely controlled! I love this stuff, I've been looking for a copy of the anthology for ages… (I got here because Layabozi just linked through http://layabozi.com/2013/08/headphones-banger-028-american-booze-djs-an-anthology-of-chinese-experimental-music-1992-2008/ )

thank you very much - glad you found it / enjoyed it! it's worth tracking down the compilation - the tracks are very different in their original form and worth hearing as standalone pieces - if you can sustain that much noise/abrasion/textured distorstion or feedback!

I just ordered a copy of the comp, looking forward to getting my teeth into that! Any chance of a download for this mix?

by the way, I did my own selection of recent experimental work from China. I am no DJ, so no fancy mixing, just presenting the works as is, with a bit of arrangement. They're quite powerful, I think. http://www.mixcloud.com/co_burn/8trk15-guest-mix-by-edward-sanderson-china-experimental/

Salty, Sweet, Spicy and sour... You really are making my musical tastebuds dance with this. Knockout theme and a smooth, sympathetic delivery. As instant a fave as a pot noodle, but much better for my health!
