I play records. That's it. I was lucky enough to be in Detroit when the scene was ready to explode. It left an imprint on me. like so many others, that is impossible to forget. The scene was rich and the energy was palpable. Mike Banks took me into Submerge by appointment and then drove me around the city to show me all the places that magic happened. We listened to the compilation CD that I had just bought while we drove. Mike Huckaby worked in the Record Time dance room, and pointed me to the record that I was looking for, the one he played the night before that stopped me in my tracks (The Preacher Man). Hawtin had clandestine signs posted throughout the city to guide us to the next party. It was my church and my revival. Now in the twin Cities, I'm slowly finding my way into this kindred scene and all of the like minded people.
