Today, we celebrate Halloween and the release of the long-awaited Thought Gang LP with a new incursion in the dark jazz genre. As you probably know, dark jazz is a hugely atmospheric subgenre of jazz music, inspired by Miles Davis, Alice Coltrane or Charles Mingus, and prominently heard in Angelo Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks soundtracks. Since its beginnings with such acts as Bohren & der Club of Gore, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, or Macelleria Mobile di Mezzanotte, this style of music has evolved in many ways, taking its cue from such genres as ambient, hip-hop, doom metal or electronica. This mix features some of the most exciting musicians on the scene right now, such as Côte Deserte, Manet, Joel Fausto & Illusion Orchestra, Michael Arthur Holloway or Alex Baranowski. We’d also like to single out the highly prolific Bebopovsky and The Orkestry Podyezdov, who produces the most Lynchian, noirish jazz you’ll hear today.
Thanks for listening, happy Halloween!
