This is a selection of rootical tunes I brought back from my trip to beautiful island of Mauritius, just a little east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. As some of you might know (unfortunately most people don't), many African music regions have found their own distinctive sound of popular music in the last decade - between Tradition and influences like hip hop, reggae, dancehall and soca.
Fresh to the ear and with innovative grooves, harmonies and vocal styles a new generation of music is pumping through the African Boombox. This radio/mixtape series is dedicated to promoting these styles to a wider audience.
Mauritius has a very live music scene, with a lot of Reggae influences. Also other African styles like coupe decale or hiplife are often integrated into Mauritan pop songs.
This mix is presenting some of the finest roots and coscious reggae related tunes from Mauritius and Rodriguez includind typical Seggae tunes, mixing Reggae with the local Sega music.
