Britpop, acid jazz, big beat, grunge, French house, funk, indie pop… the sound of Copenhagen nightlife institution Rust in the 90’s was quite versatile.
Picking up on the various pop culture movements that were a bit too left-of-centre for the inner city mainstream establishments, the club in the borough of Nørrebro drew a crowd of students, artists and alternative-minded people into its intimate space. And it was where I started DJ’ing on a more serious basis in 1996.
I’ve dug into my old records and recorded this nostalgic 5-hour mixtape, resembling a night as it could have sounded back then before the millennium. A time-machine back to the Rust dance floor of the time and some of the tunes that worked it. Features a.o. Blur, Basement Jaxx, Jamiroquai, Underworld, The Smiths, Beastie Boys, Herbert, The Chemical Brothers, Björk, Underworld, Nirvana, Dimitri From Paris, Stereo MC’s, Saint Etienne, Beck, Daft Punk and many more.
Party like it’s 1999. Literally.
