J.A.S.S. #30 : The Evolution Of J.A.S.S.

Playing tracks by

Issler's Orchestra, John Philip Sousa's Band, Edison Symphony Orchestra, Vess L. Ossman, Edison Military Band and more.

This is the first Evolution Of J.A.S.S.; a conceptual / chronological jazz mix series designed to illustrate the changes in jazz over it's more than one century history. Starting with marching bands of the late 1800's and ending with forward thinking jazz of the new millennium this almost 3 hour mix attempts to give the listener the experience of jazz mutating before their very ears. Beginning with the 'Electric Light Quadrille' from 1889 (where the Issler's Orchestra announce the unveiling of the electric light bulb for the first time) the Jazz Amnesty Sound System chronologically lay out track after track until they wind up in 2011. This is by no means a definitive history of jazz. Think of it more as moments in time captured, collected and replayed to take the listener on a 122 year journey into the heart of this thing called jazz.
