In October 2016, Major General Mohamed Sheik Hassan Haamud concluded a ceremony that was held at the headquarters of the General Kahie police Institute in Mogadishu where women police forces were being promoted. Following a steady improvement in the recent years, the number of women joining the police increased. There was also an increase in the ranks of the policewomen whereby the women in the police service were being promoted.
Commander Haamud added: “In the past 2 years the number of policewomen who have joined us has escalated to 10% and many educated women have joined the police force in Somalia and one of the police substations in Banadir is in the role of female Somali police, this still has not occurred and is an opportunity we want to utilize”.
