The Somali National Army of yesterday was at the top among the best forces in Africa. They had witnessed a golden period before they were fragmented following the fall of the central government in 1991. The fall of the central government led to the destruction of national institutions and the armed forces was not an exception. The armed force is currently being rebuilt. This is following a new hope of stabilization, law enforcement and order coming back after 20 years of instability.
The rebuilding of the Somali National Army is the first priority for the country. Somali National Army is still struggling to recover from the destruction of the past and has to handle challenges with of lack of training and resources including weapons. These economic challenges in a country without government for the past 20 years cannot be withstood by an army without the interest of their nation heard.
