The Somali National Team did not succeed in make significant progress as it was always eliminated at the first qualifying rounds. The players attributedthis to a number of challenges including the fact that they were often affected by the weather conditions and high altitudes of the counties where the games were played. Critics of Somali football also argue that nepotism is a major factor that restricts any chance of progress for Somali soccer since players were selected subjectively and not based on individual player’s football qualities. Despite soccer being the most cherished sport in Somalia, it is still of low standards. However, all is not lost, as there are emerging phenomena that point to the real prospects for improvement.
