Pitlochry, United Kingdom
Heartland FM was established in 1991 and after local fundraising reached £32,000 the station began broadcasting at weekends in 1992. Eventually Heartland FM became a full-time local radio service for Highland Perthshire transmitting on 97.5 MHz FM from a studio base in Pitlochry. At the time the station was Britain’s smallest independent local radio station with 50 volunteer presenters.
With community radio stations typically having a life span of around 7 years Heartland FM is a testament to those who have worked for the station and is now Britain's longest running community radio station.
Today a small team have continued to work to help re-invigorate the station for future years to come. We aim to provide a mix of engaging, entertaining and novel music/programmes for our listeners.
Still based in Pitlochry Heartland FM now broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to around 15,000 people across Highland Perthshire on 97.5 FM and also online, via smart speakers and now on MixCloud
