Up to date Roots gone a Farin - Deep Roots pt 1

Up to date Roots gone a Farin - Deep Roots pt 1

Playing tracks by

Payoh Soul Rebel, Shaka Black, King Kurk, Vin Gordon, Nat Birchall and more.

Chart positions

This show was 1st in the global roots reggae chart, 5th in the global vinyl only chart and 14th in the global reggae chart.

Spotlight on up to date (last ten years or so…) productions coming out of Europe with a well crafted Deep Roots sound and feel, some surprisingly deep and heavy gems out there! Kicking of with a killer Spanish production by Payoh Soul Rebel over a classic Studio One riddim loop (Prince Lincoln - True experience / Sugar Minott - Jah Almighty) and initially released in tiny quantities on a blank 7… but now repressed twice, including on Tuff Scout. Next up 2 killer UK productions on Horus and Upstir labels, with Rootsman singing and amazing organ and horns licks. Then some horns cut: majestic Studio One-style sound out of Al Breadwinner’s Stockport studio (Vin Gordon and Nat Birchall) and a smooth ‘just another girl’ cut by Gyrators. Then an upbeat early-Roots style segment with killers from Dig this way (beautiful warm productions), Version City and Sounds of Thunder labels, including a nice 'peace begins within' re-lick. A quirky piece by singer called Enoch too... mad singing..

Big up Heala. Loving the horus horns piece. And Al Breadwinner is my fave out of the modern times. Got all his LPs. I love watching his live dubbing videos on his bakery studio YouTube channel for dubbing mixing inspiration <3 big ups!

Heala

Yes Rob! Good to hear from you. Yeah man Al Breadwinner kills it. I've bumped into him a few times over the years in Mcr, very low-key humble guy
