A selection of late 70s/early 80s Jamaican Roots Rock Reggae, with those killer melodic and plodding bass lines and prophetic ‘brimstone and fire’ themes, reflecting the millenarist nature of Rasta philosophy and probably too the general mood in late 70s Kingston. Many a killer on this one, with quite a few classics, and the odd more obscure one. Kicking off with Leroy Brown/Hopeton Crawford combo on the killer Help us oh Jah riddim. Next up 4 classic 12s, all very popular on the UK Roots sound system circuit: Earth & Stone’s ‘False rulers’, Willie Brackenbridge’s ‘Blood money’, the next side to the opening 12”: 'Blood a go run' and of course Burning Spear’s ‘Jah is my driver’. Another couple classics follow with the Mighty Diamonds’ bodyguard, and Gregory’s ‘I’m sorry’. Next a killer Desi Roots LP cut, followed by a couple killer 7s on Marcus label, one from Juba Tate the other from African Star. Outro on heavy one away 7 by Nyan Como… Armagideon style.
