This show was 34th in the global interview chart.
This week, my guest is the lovely Alrene Hughes.
Alrene grew up in Belfast, but she has lived all her adult life in Manchester. She taught English for twenty years and now writes full time. A founder member of the Manchester Irish Writers, she wrote poetry and short stories for many years before deciding that what she really wanted to do was write a novel.
She is a family saga/historical romance writer. Her WW2 trilogy – Martha’s Girls, The Golden Sisters, and A Song in My Heart – is set in Belfast and focuses on the lives of one family as they experience the hardships, tragedy and romance of war time. She is currently writing a family saga set in WW2 Manchester.
I talk to Alrene about her trilogy, and about writing in general. And, of course, she shares his selections for this week’s Apocalypse Books.
Listen every Saturday from 2-4pm, North Manchester FM, 106.6 FM
