Larysa is the National folk art officer for the Association of Ukrainian Women in Great Britain (AUW). The AUW is 70 years old this year and was founded as a way for women of Ukrainian descent to get together and keep Ukrainian traditions and customs alive in the diaspora. The museum was founded in the 1960s as a way to celebrate folk art and showcase it. It has an amazing collection of pieces of embroidery, painted eggs, wooden carvings, musical instruments, ceramics and costumes, some of which was acquired from Ukraine and some made by the community here.
As always, I’ll also be reading Yesterday’s Papers, and you can pit your wits against the Who Am I? quiz – just how well do you know North Manchester’s landmark buildings?
