This week’s show features an interview with Karen Shannon of Manchester Histories, when we’ll be talking about plans for the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre.
Manchester Histories and the People’s History Museum have secured a substantial grant from the National Lottery to deliver a programme of work in 2019 to mark the bicentennial of Peterloo. There will be public events, learning and community projects led by the themes of protest, democracy and freedom of speech.
I’ll be talking to Karen on this week’s show about next year’s programme of events, but also about the importance of commemorating Peterloo – not only for Manchester, but for Greater Manchester (and beyond).
In addition to this, I’ll be taking my usual look through Yesterday’s Papers. And you can pit your wits against the Who Am I? quiz – just how well do you know North Manchester’s landmark buildings?
