This week, I’m going to be sharing Three Tales of Old Cheetham Hill.

Last month, I offered listeners Three Tales of Old Crumpsall, selected from local newspapers. I thought it would be interesting to take the same approach to the neighbouring area of Cheetham Hill. The stories I’ve selected are all from the late nineteenth century, and they paint a vivid picture of the area at the time. I’ll be talking about the unsolved murder of Christiana Fritz (aka Luise Fritz, aka Lizzie Dean), whose body was found in Cheetham Hill in 1895. I’ll also be sharing a story about the coming of the tramways, and taking a look at the strange world of unlicensed slaughterhouses.

As well as these Cheetham Hill tales, I’ll also be taking my usual look through Yesterday’s Papers. And you can pit your wits against the Who Am I? quiz – just how well do you know North Manchester’s iconic buildings?

Listen every Tuesday from 12-2pm, North Manchester FM, 106.6 FM
