This week, I’m going to be sharing Three Tales of Old Crumpsall.
I’ve selected three little stories about Crumpsall from three local newspapers this week. They’re all from the turn of the twentieth century, and they give an interesting little snapshot into the things that concerned ordinary Crumpsall residents in the early 1900s. As you might imagine, the Crumpsall Workhouse looms large, and I’ll be talking about the tragic case of Francis Southgate, an inmate of the workhouse who was killed by an attendant. I’ll also be talking about poisoned beer and a fraudulent stationmaster as well!
As well as these Crumpsall tales, I’ll be taking my usual look through Yesterday’s Papers. And you can pit your wits against the Who Am I? quiz – just how well do you know North Manchester’s landmark buildings?
