This week’s show is all about… trains!
Inspired by a number of things – not least a recent visit to the East Lancashire Railway – I’m devoting this show to talking about the railways, and the impact they had on our local area. I’m particularly interested in one company – the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway – which was arguably one of the most significant railway companies in the north (and in the UK as a whole). I’ll be talking about the company’s formation in 1847, and about the way it utterly transformed travel around and to North Manchester. And, although I will be talking about the company’s demise, I want to take a look at its legacy. What did the L&YR ever do for us?
As well as this little journey through the history of trains, I’ll also be taking my usual look through Yesterday’s Papers on this week’s show.
