Something from the GondwanaSound archives. Beautiful tracks from around the world put together for a special night in Birmingham, Drop Beats not Bombs. Adjoining warehouses were converted into chill out zones, celebrating the early days of club culture. The chill out room, a place to catch your breath and hear some amazing music. Join GondwanaSound as we recreate the journey from that night back in May 2008. I'll never forget the opening track, Uterus from the Iranian Nour Ensemble. I first heard it in Tony's record shop in Highgate, "Jill listen to this you'll be amazed", he enthused. I was completely rooted to the spot, now it filled the space under the railway arches and drifted out across the top of the advertising hoardings and into the streets below. GondwanaSound shared the stage that night with some great DJ's , Celt Islam, DJ UMB, DJ Disorientalist and Pathaan. Hope you enjoy the tunes.
One love to the music makers one love to the peacemakers.
