Second set at the amazing Deschutes Brewery Jungle Cross party, coming off the incredible band, Chicago Afrobeat Project and passing the torch to Professor Stone at the end of my set. As a DJ it's fun to take people on journeys into unfamiliar territory. The dance floor will let you know when you take them to far out of their comfort zone and you have to return to more familiar territory. This wasn't some small underground scene, it was a 2000 person party at one of the most successful breweries in Oregon, so I wasn't expecting the good people of Bend to be too open to edgy music from Angola, Portugal or Brazil, but quickly found that the further out I delved, they were more than willing to follow. Not sure if any DJs have dropped kuduro or Baile funk in their sets in Bend before, but was thrilled by the response. Good times.
