For this broadcast we found some old vinyl. We start our trip with funky stuff from the Bosphorus. Three Turkish delights: Zafer Dilek’s ‘Yekte’, jazzfunk ‘Acih’da Baga Vir’ (Baris Mancho) and pop folk singer Tulay German’s ‘Burcak Tarlasi’ (1964). ‘Rapper’s Delight’ is considered to be the song that made hip hop mainstream. This ‘Melo Do Tagarela’ of the Brazilian project Gang Do Tagarela is a jazzy instrumental version and an absolute floorfiller. Another killer is ‘Sossego’, Brazilian disco from Tim Maia, who borrowed some riffs of Booker T. Some Latin Grooves from Willie Colon & Ruben Blades, Batacumbele and Latin Tempo bring us the French Antilles. Kanda Bongo Man always incorporated elements of zouk in his soukous and his guest performance as singer on Zouk Time’s ‘Guetho A Liso’ suits him very well. We end this broadcast with Wagadu Gu’s version of Prince Nico Mbarga ‘Sweet Mother’.
Hope you enjoyed the show.
