This set has stayed too long in the box. It's about a type of Hip-Hop music that wasn't broadcasted on the radio. The tracks here were released between 1997 and 2003, even mostly between 1999 and 2001, and they represent a special period in the Hip-Hop history, a sort of rejuvenation made with different and rough sounds. We can say that the genre begins with Company Flow's first album: Funcrusher Plus. Nikkfurie, a great French beatmaker, once said that their producer, El-P, had succeeded in making groove the anti-groove. This music, with its sounds from outer space and its rhymes from the underground or vice versa, is about this: a kind of hardcore groove. Journalists called it Experimental or Abstract Hip-Hop, but it's just Hip-Hop, simply another side of it. If you used to listen to this music, no doubt you'll enjoy this humble selection; otherwise, I invite you to venture yourself, but watch out, it’s kind of tough.
