talk to the people: a live mix

Playing tracks by

Marcos Valle, Madlib, Odetta, Quinn Harris & the Masterminds, Roc Marciano and more.

This is the second installment for my December 2012 residency at the Ace Hotel in NYC. This is a sample of what I'll be spinning on Friday nights in the lobby. All these tunes are what I like to call Tasty Beats and are definitely drum heavy. From the library music of Brian Bennett to Madlib's tribute to Dilla to Hip Hop classics from Tribe and a nod to the not so mainstream with Edan and Roc Marciano to deep Funk with Groundhog, Willie Henderson, Pigmeat Markham, a soulful track from Quinn Harris, some Brazil heat from Marcos Valle, sampled tracks from Odetta, The Turtles, and Eugene McDaniels, newer Funk with the Poets of Rhythm and Natural Self (remixed by Nostaligia 77), and a few funky Reggae tracks from the likes of Dub Specialists and Deadly Headly. This mix was recorded all live and in one take, no overdubbing, just one and done, just like at the Ace. If you're in the NYC area on Fridays in Dec., stop by and say hello. R.I.P. to Guru who laced me with the FMF vocal drops.
