Listener favorites this week from Shows 271-280 on G&M (and we have VERY hip listeners here, across the US on the Pacifica Network, as well as at home in Baton Rouge on WHYR-FM!). We only had time for about a third of the tunes, but you can always listen again to those other shows right here on Mixcloud. Enjoy the program & tell your friends about G&M, ya’ here!

Next week: 50th anniversary celebrations of September 1967 Blue Note recordings

Shout-outs to our most bodacious listeners of the week in Tokyo & Yatsushiro (Japan), Belgrade (Serbia) & Pinerolo (Italy)

Great memory test these 'listeners faves' Think I'm remembering many of these tracks...Old Men Sing The Blues a fine relaxing vocal and Shirley Horn always counted on for sensual lady vocals and never disappoints. Just like the bodacious Dr himself :) Still checking the news filled with headlines regards the hurricane - hope you all stay safe.. Til Then.. nice closer

We held our breath with Harvey (listening to the back half of TLC now; did Mr. Miller fail social studies in school?), but just had a few days of rain in BR. West of us (Lake Charles) was/is a mess. Irma's hitting many of our listeners very hard this week(end). Let's hope for the best, but it's going to be nasty. Thanks for listening & welcome back from holiday. Cheers, DrJ

Relieving to know you are okay in Baton Rouge. Coincidentally, yesterday I was looking at the USA map and asking myself if your city would have been affected by the flooding. Are you reading my mind? Untoward occurrence that natural catastrophe. Something similar happened the past March in my country, Peru. Regrettable phenomenons.

Some people claim I do have a 6th sense, but as a scientist, I've never tested that:) Sorry to hear about Peru. I try to keep on eye on world affairs, but I seem to have missed that...Hope your family & friends are OK. Best, DrJ

A lot of amazing musical pieces in this one, DrJazz. I really digged unique Pat Martino’s solo; Horace Silver always inspiring; groooooovy “Nooks And Crannies”; and wonderful Bobby Hutcherson’s composition. Thanks a lot for the classy entertainment!

Thanks, Magda. Martino has always been special and what's amazing is that he had to completely relearn how to play the guitar (some years prior to this recording) since he survived a brain aneurysm! If you enjoyed Nooks, you'd likely enjoy the rest of that Sanchez recording, although it features 3 different trios - 2 don't have a guitarist. The Hutch tune was both a listener & personal favorite. Glad you enjoyed the show. We are OK in Baton Rouge, although our neighbors a couple of hours' drive west are in truly bad shape. Best, DrJ
